Customized production modernization at Betonwerk Kunaschk
Betonwerk Kunaschk GmbH, based in Neschwitz, Saxony, is a family-run company with many years of experience in the manufacture of high-quality concrete products and precast concrete elements. With two specialized production sites, Kunaschk offers a wide range of products, including paving stones, slabs, and custom-made products. In order to further increase quality and optimize production processes, the company decided in 2024 to carry out a targeted modernization of the facing mixer line at its site for concrete products.
Maschinenfabrik Gustav Eirich provided its expertise and support for the project from the initial planning stage to commissioning – conducting a technical solution tailored to the specific requirements and structural conditions on site, which has already proven its worth in operation today.
The challenge was to achieve a significant improvement in mixing quality and process reliability with as little construction work as possible.
Objectives: Reduce waste, boost quality, keep reconstruction to a minimum
The objectives were to reduce waste, optimize color distribution and concrete homogeneity, and to minimize the downtime of the paving stone machine as a synergy effect.
Stefan Berberich, Concrete Team leader at Eirich: „A key issue in this project was the mechanical integration of the new mixer into the existing plant without interfering with the existing bucket conveyor or cement feed system. We had to find a solution that was both structurally and process-technically suitable. Precise preliminary planning was crucial here. This was the only way we could smoothly implement the project despite the tight construction specifications.“
After initial contact at bauma 2022, Eirich worked with Kunaschk to develop a technical solution that could be precisely integrated into the existing plant. Special structural challenges made millimeter-precise planning necessary. The solution: a reversible belt conveyor, precisely adapted to the existing structure.
Other special features:
Cement feed: The existing cement scale was to be retained. Eirich integrated a customized screw conveyor for emptying the scale—without interfering with the scale design or the silo feed.
Aggregate feed: The new mixer could be fed directly via the existing two-way junction – only the product transfer was redesigned.
Steel construction and control system: Kunaschk itself carried out the necessary steel construction work and adjustments to the control system. Close coordination with the Eirich team ensured smooth integration.
Adherence to deadlines and cooperative partnership
After the order was placed in September 2024, preparations and dismantling took place in winter. In spring 2025, the new Eirich RV12 500 face mixer and conveyor belt were delivered and installed. Despite the limited space, the installation went smoothly. The Kunaschk team‘s consistent involvement was decisive in this regard, as they contributed to the successful implementation with a great deal of initiative and technical expertise.
Commissioning took place as planned in March 2025 – just in time for bauma 2025.
Measurable results: Higher efficiency, less waste, brilliant surfaces
With the new mixer line, Kunaschk has been able to fully achieve its modernization goals:
Significantly less waste thanks to homogeneous mixtures and improved moisture distribution
Reduced cleaning effort: Concrete no longer sticks to pressure plates and mold edges – downtime and cleaning work have been minimized
Brighter colors thanks to more evenly distributed pigments– with an adequate reduction in the amount of colorant used on top
More efficient cement processing: the binder content is better broken down and distributed
Higher throughput with shorter overall batch times.
„With the new technology, we achieve a significantly more homogeneous mixture, in which we were able to noticeably increase the already low w/c ratio in the facing concrete. Even the smallest batches with a mixture volume of less than 0.12 m³ can be retrieved almost consistently. The colored surfaces of the paving stones in particular are reliably consistent, resulting in a more brilliant appearance,“ summarizes Pierre Möhn, Managing Director of Betonwerk Kunaschk GmbH, after the implementation of the measure.
The modernization of the facing mixer line at Kunaschk shows how precisely planned and individually adapted technology from Eirich creates real added value – even in confined spaces. The combination of technical know-how, partnership-based cooperation, and practical implementation led to a significant increase in production output and improved product quality – with minimal intervention in the existing infrastructure.
