Optimising the rheology of concrete for sub-Saharan African boundary conditions

In Africa cement and concrete technology do not have a similarly long lasting tradition as in many nations of the northern hemisphere. However, the construction sector in many African economies is prospering and without doubt, cement and concrete will steadily gain importance in the future.

During the last two decades, concrete has emerged towards a versatile and customisable high perfor-mance material. However, the nowadays well established standards in countries of the northern hemisphere cannot always keep up with the rapid pace of innovations.
