In fiscal year 2025, Porr not only delivered strong financial results but also made clear progress in implementing its ESG strategy. The company significantly reduced emissions, strengthened the circular economy, and increased the proportion of women in its workforce. Now, the “Sustainable Construction” portfolio is being expanded—with the goal of further reducing emissions, resource consumption, and costs in construction projects.
Porr CEO Karl-Heinz Strauss explains: “Anyone who takes sustainability seriously must also demonstrate it. Our figures show that we can successfully reduce emissions, use resources more efficiently, and grow economically at the same time. For us, sustainability is an integral part of our business model.”
With the ESG strategy presented in 2025, Porr is pursuing 18 measurable goals by 2030, backed by 55 concrete measures. Already in the first year of implementation, it is evident that 13% of the measures have been fully integrated, and another 71% are currently being implemented. Sustainable business practices and financial success go hand in hand at Porr. The combined 2025 Business and Sustainability Report shows that Porr has not only achieved top performance in terms of revenue and order volumes but is also already on the path to success when it comes to ESG.
1. Emissions significantly reduced
PORR reduced its direct emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 22.5% and emissions along the value chain (Scope 3) by 12.9%. This means that, already in its first year, the company is on track to meet its science-based climate targets set in 2024 under the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which call for a reduction of 43% (Scope 1 and 2) and 25% (Scope 3) by 2030. Key drivers included the increased use of alternative fuels, the expansion of renewable energy, and lower energy consumption. With production output remaining stable, emissions intensity fell by 14.3%
2. Improving Energy Efficiency and Expanding Renewable Energy
Porr reduced its total energy consumption by 9.2% to 817.1 GWh. At the same time, the share of renewable energy in total energy consumption increased significantly to 19.9% (2024: 7.7%). Measures include, among other things, the increased use of photovoltaics and green electricity on construction sites, as well as the optimization of energy consumption and equipment usage.
3. Strengthening the circular economy
The internal recycling rate was increased from 50% to 57%. This means that more than half of the resources in the PORR cycle come from the company’s own recycling efforts. This reduces the demand for primary raw materials. At the same time, Porr strengthens its independence from volatile raw material markets and reduces procurement risks. Key drivers in this regard are the processing of excavated material, recycled asphalt, and the use of secondary building materials.
4. Increasing the proportion of women at Porr
The proportion of women at Porr has been increased to 17.0%. A positive trend is also evident in leadership positions, with an increase to 16.4% (2024: 15.5%).
5. Sustainable Construction Sites as the New Standard
In 2025, Porr became the first construction company in Austria to receive the ÖGNI Basic Certificate for sustainable construction sites in building and civil engineering. This approach is being gradually implemented as a new Porr minimum standard across all construction sites, systematically embedding sustainability criteria into construction execution.
Positioning as a Provider of Integrated Sustainable Construction Services
The momentum continues: Porr is expanding its range of sustainable services. Specifically, this involves combining clear minimum standards in line with the basic certification for sustainable construction sites with tailor-made solutions for clients that integrate ecological and economic requirements. The spectrum ranges from CO₂-optimized planning and implementation to low-emission materials, energy-efficient construction sites, innovative logistics solutions, and demolition and recycling concepts.
In this way, Porr positions itself as a provider of integrated sustainable construction services. Strauss: “We are systematically expanding our portfolio in sustainable construction to work with our customers to reduce emissions, resource consumption, and costs across the entire life cycle of construction projects.”
