FDB Technical Guide on the Fastening of Concrete Facades Updated

The FDB has published a revised edition of Technical Guide No. 4 on the fastening of precast concrete facades. The new edition replaces the previous version from 2018 and provides comprehensive information on topics including facade designs and the boundary conditions for planning the fastening. All updates are based on the currently valid technical regulations.

New chapters on facade types

The technical note was revised by the FDB Facades Working Group. In addition to editorial changes, the new edition contains two additional chapters: The previous content on sandwich elements, large-format curtain wall panels, and precast concrete stone panels has been expanded to include non-load-bearing facades in Chapter 2.4 and load-bearing facades with interior insulation in Chapter 2.5. The technical guideline describes in detail how these facade types can be installed in compliance with regulations.

FDB Technical Guideline No. 4 is intended for designers, precast concrete manufacturers, contractors, and experts in the precast concrete construction industry and is available free of charge on the FDB website. With this publication, the trade association once again promotes the practical transfer of knowledge and supports the implementation of important standards in the precast concrete industry.

The complete FDB technical bulletin collection currently comprises 15 bulletins on topics related to construction with precast concrete elements. Topics covered include exposed concrete with guidance on specification, planning, and fastening of precast concrete facades, architectural concrete, sustainability, fire protection requirements, prestressing with immediate bond, load securing, corrosion protection of fasteners, tolerances and fit calculations, as well as planning phases and the provision of installation instructions. The collection is supplemented by a checklist for the specification of exposed concrete surfaces in precast concrete elements. All information sheets are available for free download on the FDB website.
