New momentum for the precast industry: Successful
fib event held at Munich Technical University

In May 2025, international precast professionals met at the Technical University of Munich to hold the spring session of fib Commission 6 “Prefabrication”. Fib, the Fédération Internationale du Béton (International Federation for Structural Concrete), is a global industry organization dedicated to promoting research, development, and practice in the field of structural concrete. As supporters of the commission’s work, Green Code and Progress Group joined forces to establish an even closer link to hands-on applications while focusing on topics such as sustainability, quality, and technical innovation in prefabrication.

The Green Code building system

A major highlight was the presentation delivered by Peter Meuwissen, who introduced the Green Code building system. This integrated solution for sustainable construction aroused great interest among the international experts and gave rise to thorough discussions about its potential for industrial-scale application. Special emphasis was put on the modularity of the system and the circularity of the materials used.

Factory visit at Rohrdorfer

The agenda was rounded off by a guided tour through the Rohrdorfer (RBW) precast plant in Berglern. RBW is the most innovative Green Code licensee in Southern Germany, manufacturing precast products to the Green Code standard, according to the supplier. At the factory, participants were given exclusive insights into the fully automated production of double wall panels – a true hands-on example of efficiency and precision in the manufacturing process.

Wit Derkowski takes the chair

Besides the meetings of task groups on topics such as sustainability, quality, and social aspects of construction, there was also an official change of chair within the commission: Wit Derkowski takes over from Stef Maas and brings fresh impetus to the role. Together with the newly elected deputy chairs Irene Josa i Culleré and Ned Cleland, as well as secretary Alessandra Ronchetti continuing in her role, the presidium aims to intensify the work of the commission and to strengthen cooperation with other associations such as the BIBM.

The event clearly demonstrated that the precast industry is not standing still. Using formats such as this, fib promotes the exchange between research and practice and actively contributes to transforming the industry towards sustainable, digitally supported construction.
