Formwork Concept for Denmark’s Third-Longest Bridge
25.06.2026The new Storstrøm Bridge will create an important transportation link between Scandinavia and Central Europe. During the construction of the 3.83 km-long cable-stayed bridge, an integrated formwork and scaffolding concept from Doka was used, which was adapted to the complex geometry and high demands of the project.

The “Dronning Margrethe II’s Bro” connects the Danish islands of Falster and Zealand and, together with the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link, forms an important part of the north-south transportation corridor between Scandinavia and Central Europe. With a total length of approximately 3,830 m, the bridge is Denmark’s third-longest bridge.
Formwork Solutions for Different Construction Phases

Since 2019, Doka has been supporting the project with formwork and scaffolding solutions for several construction phases. These include the approximately 80-meter-long approach bridges, precast pier heads, cantilevered structures connecting the precast bridge segments to the pylon, and formwork solutions for the 102-meter-high pylon. In addition, a project-specific work platform was developed for the final work on the cable-stayed bridge.
The pylon features variable geometry as well as integrated recesses, precast box-outs, and embedded parts for the stay cables. To construct it, Doka combined the SKE100 plus and SKE50 plus self-climbing formwork systems. According to the company, this approach made it possible to accommodate the structure’s varying geometric requirements.
Work Platform for Final Assembly
A specially developed work platform was used for the final work on the cable-stayed bridge. It was erected in sections using the Staxo 100 supporting scaffold and utilized existing anchor points from the pylon construction. Two integrated stair towers provided access during all construction phases.
The bridge was opened to road traffic in early June 2026. The railway line is scheduled to open in 2027. The previous Storstrøm Bridge, built in 1937, was decommissioned following the opening of the new bridge and is being gradually dismantled.
