AHE Betonwaren GmbH is now part of Solid Unit, the network for innovative and climate-neutral construction using mineral building materials. The Rinteln-based company manufactures concrete blocks from regionally sourced gravel. AHE extracts the raw material using environmentally friendly technology directly at its site on the Weser River.

New generation of CO₂-sequestering concrete blocks

With its C-ton product line, AHE has launched a new generation of CO₂-sequestering concrete blocks. According to the company, the C-ton blocks offset 100% of all CO₂ emissions generated by the concrete raw materials used and the entire production process.

This is made possible by a novel concrete additive that binds carbon within the building material over a long period of time. External offsetting through the purchase of CO₂ credits is therefore not necessary. An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is set to be published shortly, transparently detailing the environmental impacts of C-ton products.

Climate-Resilient Urban Planning

The paving system also enables water-permeable surface design, thereby supporting climate-resilient urban planning. By allowing rainwater to infiltrate at the point of origin, it helps relieve pressure on infrastructure during heavy rainfall.

Thomas Zawalski, CEO of Solid Unit, emphasizes: “With AHE, our network is gaining another company that demonstrates how to combine innovation in concrete—a mass-produced building material—with tangible climate benefits. The issue of permeable outdoor surfaces, in particular, is becoming increasingly important due to the rise in heavy rainfall events.”

“Innovation in harmony with nature has always been the guiding principle for our corporate group. We firmly believe that innovation and cooperation are the keys to overcoming the challenges of climate change. For this reason, we are delighted to have now become part of the Solid Unit network,” explains Sascha Wagener, Managing Director of AHE.
