Self-efficacy
As we start the new year, our view inevitably turns to the future. Our industry has high expectations for 2026 – and I, too, hope for a year that will give us new momentum. At the same time, I have learned in recent years that external circumstances rarely develop the way we would like. The experience of the pandemic as well as of global political uncertainties and their impact on our economy and on the construction industry have made it clear how unpredictable our reality has become.
But this situation has especially given rise to a thought that is not pessimistic, but rather empowering: reliability arises above all where we ourselves have influence: – in our own actions, in our attitude and in the strength of our teams. Time and again, I have seen how much can be achieved when people are willing to assume responsibility, accept challenges, and move forward step by step. This inner stability – courage, perseverance and resilience – carries us through times that are difficult to control from the outside.
I am eager to see what developments and impulses will shape our industry in 2026 and will continue to drive it forward. In this issue, we are once again dedicating an extensive chapter to the topic of sustainability. It shows how much this field continues to concern the industry. It also demonstrates what most companies have long recognized: that sustainability and economic efficiency are not mutually exclusive, but that they, in fact, reinforce each other.
For the new year, I wish you: that you exploit the strengths within yourselves and in your environment – and that this gives you the energy to embrace new things. May 2026 offer us all opportunities to move forward courageously and to seize chances wherever they arise.
Yours, Karla Knitter
