New Automation check-up system ensures plant availability

The new Automation check-up system from Unitechnik Systems GmbH offers a structured service for optimizing automated production systems. The three-step process analyzes malfunctions, implements targeted improvements and thus ensures greater productivity in plant operation.

An unplanned shutdown in the middle of peak operation is for many companies a nightmare. When processes come to a standstill, deliveries are delayed and the staff are stressed, entire plant operations are at stake. It has been shown time and again that interruptions become known weeks or months in advance. This is exactly where Unitechnik goes into play. The new Automation check-up system, offered by Unitechnik Systems GmbH is a three-step service concept that goes far beyond classic maintenance. The aim is to sustainably ensure technical availability and to improve performance by targeted improvements.

Stability instead of error messages

The concept is based on a structured triad of analysis, implementation and evaluation. In the first phase, Unitechnik closely examines historical error messages: Where are the problems in the system? What patterns can be identified? This analysis is supplemented by a software check-up, since outdated firmware or unused functions can also considerably impair plant performance. The end result is a specific action plan that clearly shows where and how to start – both technically and organizationally. The second phase concerns implementation: control experts from Unitechnik take over adaptation of the software, carry out in-house tests if needed and support the required conversion on site. Close exchange with the customer is essential: because only when theory and practice combine does the full potential of optimization unfold. The third phase concludes the procedure: a detailed before-and-after comparison of plant availability. This clearly reveals which improvements are already taking effect and where further potential lies.

“Our aim is to support our customers during the entire operational phase. Automation check-up is a central component of our partnership,” emphasizes Christian Stangier, Head of Customer Service at Unitechnik. “We help our customers to detect weak points early and to correct them promptly. This approach prevents costly breakdowns, reduces unplanned downtimes and significantly improves company planning. At the same time, teams on site are relieved, because they can once again concentrate on their core tasks.”

An impressive example for the success of the Automation check-up became apparent promptly during its first application in a logistics facility: through analysis and subsequent measures, it was possible to reduce the unplanned downtimes of a stacking and retrieval device, due to malfunctions, by 94 hours per month. This enabled the customer to efficiently stack and retrieve an additional 4,215 handling units per month.

This offer addresses companies that want to future-proof their existing automation. The concept is already evident in practice: many companies have already decided to conduct regular Automation Check-ups: a strong indication for the sustainable use of this offer.
