Four Rohrdorfer precast plants awarded with CSC sustainability certificate

Rohrdorfer Betonwerke GmbH & Co. KG (RBW) headquartered in Lanhofen is celebrating a milestone in their company history. Four locations have obtained the CSC sustainability certificate at the same time. The certificate stands for sustainable business practices in the concrete industry and its supply chains. The Dollnstein, Ellhofen, Lanhofen and Berglern plants have fulfilled all criteria of the Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) and have held the CSC certificate in silver since February 2025. The certificate is valid until February 2028, when it can be recertified.

Concrete production in an environmentally, socially and economically responsible manner

The CSC certificate confirms the plants to run their concrete production in an environmentally, socially and economically responsible manner, taking the entire supply chain into account too. Due to the fact that, for several years, all RBW sites have sourced the cement for their production from suppliers that are also certified, a sustainable supply chain had been assured already in advance and is now confirmed officially by the certificate.

This also means advantages for RBW as a supplier. As the certificate is acknowledged by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB – Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen) for assessing sustainable buildings, it makes it easier for building contractors/owners to achieve a higher overall degree of fulfillment if they receive their products from CSC-certified suppliers. At present, RBW is one of only three CSC-certified manufacturers of semi-precast products in Bavaria.

Top ratings in the category „social affairs“

For the certification, CSC examines the applicant in the five categories of management, environment, social affairs, economic efficiency and chain of custody. The RBW sites scored particularly well in the category of social affairs and achieved 45 of 48 possible points. In particular, the regular campaigns were rewarded such as opening the factory premises for the training of rescue dog squadrons and fire exercises as well as the support of cultural events and sports in the region.

Focus on energy-efficient production

„For us, the certificate is a pretty recognition of the many measures that we have actively initiated in the last few years,“ RBW General Manager, Manfred Platzer, states with delight. „We have completely modernized the production at all plants, for example, and trimmed them for energy-efficiency and sustainability.“ Hence, they rely on drying the precast elements in an energy-saving way, by using residual heat of a combined heat and power plant or water heat pumps, for example. All factories are using more and more recycled aggregates to preserve the primary raw materials gravel.

RBW also managed to reduce noise and dust in the production on all production sites with measurable success – a factor that does not only have a positive effect on the certification, but also on the workforce and the neighboring residents of the factories.
