Since mid-October, the ‘construction turbo’ has been able to start in Germany. The law is intended to simplify and accelerate the construction of affordable housing. With these goals in mind, the Information Centre for Concrete (IZB) has published its new brochure ‘Affordable Construction. With Concrete.’ (in German). The publication shows in a practical way how this solid building material brings economic, technical and ecological advantages to residential construction. The brochure is now available for free download at nachhaltig-bauenmit-beton.de and in the concrete shop.
Affordable housing is in short supply in Germany – especially in cities. Rising construction costs, complex requirements and a shortage of skilled workers are slowing down construction activity. ‘Affordable housing is a task for society as a whole: it requires both innovative solutions and proven concepts – especially when it comes to construction itself. In view of this, the IZB is intensively addressing the question of how economical construction can be combined with ecological responsibility,’ says Julian Biermann, Sustainability Project Manager at the IZB.
Concrete as the key to affordable and sustainable housing
Answers to this question are now provided in the new brochure ‘Affordable Construction. With Concrete.’ It shows that modern construction with concrete is not only economically viable, but also ecologically sensible – thanks to reduced technical requirements, longer life cycles and new opportunities for CO₂ reduction.
In addition, it provides a detailed analysis of cost drivers, the influence of the choice of building materials, and innovative and sustainable construction concepts. In this context, the brochure focuses in particular on material-saving concrete construction methods and the use of climate-efficient cements. The latter, for example, enable CO₂ savings of 20% and more without any relevant additional costs. ‘Concrete plays a central role in creating more affordable living space – as a durable, cost-efficient and increasingly climate-friendly building material,’ says Biermann.
The publication is available for download free of charge on the IZB sustainability website nachhaltig-bauen-mit-beton.de and in the concrete shop.
