As of April 1, 2026, the Glatthaar Group acquired virtually all of the shares in BFU Beton-Fertigteil-Union in Schramberg-Waldmössingen. With this move, the company gains a high-performance and well-positioned production site and now operates a total of five precast concrete plants nationwide—including Starwalls production—in addition to Waldmössingen, in Neuwied (Rhineland-Palatinate), Oranienbaum (Saxony-Anhalt), and Günzburg (Bavaria). BFU was founded in 1997 as a cooperative of small and medium-sized enterprises involving up to ten construction companies from the region. With the exception of the construction firm Haas Sulgen, all other companies have withdrawn as shareholders over the years. Glatthaar has now acquired the shares held by the Uhl Group and Rottweiler Transportbeton.

Nationwide network of proprietary precast concrete plants

With this acquisition, the Glatthaar Group is strengthening its network of precast concrete plants and becoming less dependent on external manufacturers. BFU employs around 70 people and operates three production halls and a concrete mixing plant on a 4.5-hectare site in the immediate vicinity of Glatthaar Keller and Glatthaar Starwalls. The company manufactures hollow-core walls, precast floor slabs, solid walls, all types of staircases, as well as sophisticated custom components such as columns, beams, and balcony slabs for residential, commercial, and public construction.

Strategically, the Glatthaar Group aims to control the entire value chain—from processed raw materials to the finished building shell—in-house. “We are convinced of the future of precast concrete and anticipate future market growth,” says company founder Joachim Glatthaar. BFU brings a broad product range and extensive production expertise to the table, particularly when it comes to sophisticated custom components. The residential construction market is “currently manageable,” but commercial construction has virtually ground to a halt. “This makes it all the more important to set the strategic course now and specifically achieve alignment of the product portfolio with sustainable growth markets,” emphasizes Joachim Glatthaar.

Positive signals from infrastructure construction

The company expects a tailwind particularly from the infrastructure sector and the 500 billion euro investment package approved by the federal government. “If we succeed in successfully integrating BFU into the Glatthaar Group and consistently leveraging the synergies, our strategy will be confirmed as sound and future-proof,” emphasizes Joachim Glatthaar. The commitment to industrial prefabrication and the associated acquisition support the approach of broadening the Glatthaar Group’s overall footprint and further reducing its dependence on single- and two-family home construction. The investment is thus a key building block for securing the company’s long-term future. As part of the integration, BFU will be able to draw on the Glatthaar Group’s central commercial and technical services, thereby leveraging synergies.

The Uhl Group, headquartered in Hausach—which also includes Rottweiler Transportbeton—is focusing more strongly on its core business of raw material processing following the sale of its shares. “The previous shareholders will remain economically linked to BFU as business partners; the acquisition by the Glatthaar Group was based on negotiations conducted in a spirit of trust,” emphasize Meike Beck-Uhl, Managing Director of Uhl Kies- und Baustoff GmbH, and Glatthaar Managing Director Reiner Heinzelmann. BFU’s customers can continue to rely on high-quality products and services as well as reliable delivery.
