BIBM is the Federation of the European Precast Concrete Industry and the main representative body for precast concrete manufacturers at European level. Based in Brussels, it acts as the collective voice of the precast sector towards EU institutions, standardisation bodies and key construction stakeholders, ensuring that the specificities of prefabricated concrete construction are properly reflected in European legislation, standards and policy initiatives.
Full members of BIBM are national branch associations of the precast concrete sector; associate members, organisations engaged with the development of the sector, are also supporting the association. BIBM’s role goes beyond advocacy. It provides a structured platform for technical exchange and coordination among its members, supporting the development of harmonised standards, guidance documents and best practices. Through its committees and working groups, BIBM addresses current and future trends and policies, helping members anticipate regulatory change and adapt to evolving market and policy expectations.
A strong focus of BIBM’s work lies in sustainability and innovation. The federation actively contributes to EU debates on climate policy, circular economy, construction products regulation and whole-life carbon assessment, while promoting the benefits of precast concrete in terms of durability, resource efficiency, quality control, fire safety and industrial performance. It also collaborates closely with other European construction and concrete-sector organisations to deliver coherent, science-based messages at EU level.
In addition, BIBM organises th BIBM Congress, a flagship international event held every two years that brings together industry leaders, engineers, architects, researchers and policymakers to exchange ideas on innovation, sustainability and future pathways for precast concrete construction in Europe and beyond.
You can find the BIBM Congress program and other conference details in this issue of BFT International starting on page 8. See you in Rome!
