Innovative Brazilian manufacturer awarded Green Seal for outstanding environmental practices
Based in Brazil’s southernmost state of Rio Grande do Sul, Torri Engenharia e Saneamento considers itself to be both a concrete producer and a supplier. Its product range includes precast elements for civil engineering and infrastructure projects, as well as related system-specific accessories. Precast products include concrete manhole rings, stormwater retention basins/cisterns with a capacity of up to 9,000 liters (larger sizes are available upon request), small sewage treatment plants, reinforced-concrete box culverts for sewage and inspection, pump sumps, composting elements, prefabricated foundations, oil/grease separators (round or square), drinking fountains and cattle troughs (circular or linear), fire extinguishing tanks, reactor tanks, concrete frames, concrete grilles, anaerobic filters, planters, and reinforced-concrete manhole covers (square or round) ranging in internal diameter from 40 to 300 cm and in thickness from 50 to 100 mm. Custom designs and sizes are also available.
In addition, the business supplies metal and plastic elements, such as manhole covers and access systems, spacers, foundation connectors, drainage pipes, cover caps, and sealing tapes.
Innovative family business
Besides company founder and CEO Nabor Torri, his wife, Gladis Maria Kayser Torri, and their children, Jlia and Eduardo Torri, work for the company as well.
Director Jlia Torri explains: “Nabor is a real tinkerer and inventor. Shortly after founding the business, he came up with the idea of creating a second source of income to avoid expensive purchases and to supply other concrete manufacturers. For instance, we developed our plastic reinforcement spacers in diameters ranging from 15 to 50 mm and launched them as early as 1986. This was a pioneering feat for our industry. Also, we have been producing our foundation connectors since 1992. Our Torri product brands, including Caixafacil, Anelfacil, Basefacil, Espaçafacil, and Selafacil, are based on sophisticated engineering designs that exceed the current industry standard in Brazil.”
Green Seal awarded
Just recently Torri Engenharia e Saneamento was awarded the “Selo Verde pelas Boas Práticas Ambientais” (Green Seal for Outstanding Environmental Practices) by Totary International. CEO Nabor Torri comments: “We consider this award a recognition of our work in sanitation, and we would like to express our heartfelt thanks for the support we have always received from our customers, experts, and institutions. They have understood our 32-year history of engineering and commercial work with the Anelfacil-Caixafacil system to create a better environment. Throughout the entire production process of Anelfacil and Caixafacil, we have recycled all concrete waste according to the ‘reduce, recycle, reuse’ principle.”
This primarily concerns cisterns for storing rainwater, reusing water for concrete production in the factory, retention systems, a photovoltaic system for generating electricity in-house, and other sustainable practices. Eduardo Kayser Torri, Technical Director, adds: “We know that awareness has risen regarding issues in the fields of wastewater disposal and stormwater management, and they are now being actively addressed in Brazil. I would also like to congratulate the experts for their commitment to improving the Crea-RS regulatory authority’s facilities in Camaquã. We firmly believe that we are on the right track and that it is worth continuing our work to soon achieve results in water control to combat floods and droughts. The products and solutions supplied by Torri Engenharia e Saneamento are making a major contribution to this endeavor.”
