PEIKKO

Innovative solutions summarized in reference books

Peikko‘s declared goal is to make construction in all its forms faster, more efficient and safer. This goal is achieved not only through the manufacture of appropriate products, but also through the development and preparation of technical reference books whose contents reflect the current state of the art.

The latest publication „Peikko Bolted connections in precast concrete structures“ is the third technical book published by Peikko. It continues the series that started with „Behaviour and design of steel-concrete composite structures“ by Dr. Matti Leskelä (2018) and „Double-headed anchors as punching shear reinforcement - explanations and guidance on design and construction“ by Dr. Thomas Sippel (2020).

Bolted connections in precast construction

The actual reference book provides a solid technical information package on the entire range of bolted connections in precast construction and transfers the knowledge to practical design and construction.

Bolted connections with special built-in components such as anchor bolts, column shoes and beam shoes were developed by Peikko more than 30 years ago to produce cost-effective, bending resistant connections between precast concrete elements. Such bolted connections have many competitive advantages, including fast execution, high accuracy due to the lowest tolerances, high fire resistance and high quality. Connections between precast elements are quick and easy to assemble and at the same time economical.

The development and improvement of Peikko bolted connections, as well as the evaluation of various experimental and theoretical investigations, are presented in detail in this book.

Double-headed anchors as punching shear reinforcement

Double-headed anchors such as PSB are one of the most efficient systems for reinforcing concrete slabs against punching shear failure. They are mostly used to reinforce flat slabs, foundation slabs or column foundations. Over the past 20 years, this reinforcement technique has become virtually a standard in Central Europe; it is meanwhile becoming increasingly popular outside Europe as well. The technical reference book „Double-headed anchors as punching shear reinforcement - explanations and guidance on design and construction“ from Peikko is a comprehensive technical information package on punching shear reinforcement and is available in a combined bilingual edition in English and German.

The design procedure according to EN 1992-1-1 cannot be used to assess the beneficial effect of deformation-reduced anchorage of double-headed anchors compared to punching shear reinforcement made of stirrups. Since 2012, the first European Technical Approvals (ETAs) for punching shear reinforcement have been available, based on the same design concept developed for use in conjunction with EN 1992-1-1.

When the European Technical Approvals were converted into European Technical Assessments, the design rules contained therein were also removed. Dr. Thomas Sippel took this as an opportunity to summarize the design concept with additional planning and design notes as well as design examples in this book. Updated design rules for fatigue loading have also been incorporated. The books provide support for planners, engineers, and contractors in their daily practice.

European Technical Assessments are based on a common understanding of test methods. Since the same design rules and methods are valid and applicable throughout Europe, they simplify and speed up the design and dimensioning process, supporting Peikko‘s efforts to make design and construction processes fast, efficient, and safe.
