Cemex Admixtures produces admixtures for high-quality precast elements

The construction chemicals specialists at Cemex Admixtures GmbH support producers of ready-mixed concrete, cement and precast elements in their endeavor to implement more cost-efficient and sustainable ways of working. According to them, their knowledge and expertise is in high demand internationally.

The staff of Cemex Admixtures GmbH headquartered in Salzkotten in the German region of Westphalia develop and produce innovative concrete admixtures and cement grinding aids. Their products provide building material manufacturers with greater design freedom, make structural components exceedingly durable and contribute to a low-carbon, resource-efficient construction materials industry. Cemex Admixtures develops customized new solutions in order to ensure that its product range always meets the increasingly demanding requirements for concrete and cement.

“It is our ambition to develop better solutions than those currently available on the market, and to come up with better solutions particularly in the case of demanding specifications,” underscores Dietmar Vötsch, Managing Director of Cemex Admixtures GmbH. In Germany, the company plays a pioneering role by providing state-of-the-art solutions for an exceedingly wide range of applications in the field of construction chemicals. The Cemex Admixtures laboratories develop a large number of new products – from pure innovations to benchmarking-based solutions, on demand, or for enhancing existing products.

Product solutions for precast producers

The portfolio also includes product solutions enabling precast producers to implement exceedingly cost-efficient processes conforming to high quality standards while reducing the associated carbon footprint. High-quality precast elements excel with their outstanding appearance and short production times. Cemex Admixtures provides specially designed admixtures and release agents to cater to these needs.

The precast range comprises tried-and-tested products as well as tailor-made new solutions making it possible to produce the concrete exactly to specification. More specifically, it includes Isocast plasticizers, Isosphere air-entraining agents, Isoxel set accelerators, Isostab stabilizers, Isoform release agents, and Isocure curing compounds. These products are used for easily compactible, self-compacting, high- and early-strength, lightweight and aerated concretes.

Tailored consultancy and advice

The concrete technologists at Cemex Admixtures provide customers with tailored consultancy and advice to ensure that the use of admixtures delivers maximum returns on both the technological and the commercial level. They carry out performance and other tests at their laboratories, respond to questions regarding the right batching, storage and application, and provide on-site support. In addition, the technical service function at Cemex provides a wide range of services from cleaning storage tanks to installing complete batching systems.

On the logistics side, Cemex Admixtures is in an outstanding position to deliver any required admixture directly to the customer’s storage site at short notice. In Germany, the company operates five trucks for this purpose. If required, the construction chemicals specialists also deliver their products via ship, freight forwarding or, if time is of the essence, by plane. They also ensure compliance with customs regulations and identify applicable import restrictions.

From family-owned business to member of a multinational group

The knowledge and expertise of Cemex Admixtures is the result of the company’s experience gained in the field of concrete technology over several decades. The history of the company dates back to 1980, when Isola Bauchemie GmbH was founded. This family-owned business based in Eastern Westphalia was subsequently acquired by Readymix Kies + Beton AG, which, in turn, was taken over by Cemex, one of the leading international construction materials companies, in 2005. In the course of the acquisition, the construction chemicals producer was renamed to Cemex Admixtures GmbH and became a subsidiary of Cemex Europe.

Comprehensive market intelligence

The team headed by Dietmar Vötsch, Cemex Admixtures Managing Director and Director Mortars & Admixtures Europe at Cemex, Wolfgang Salmen, Manager Product Technology, Roland Poppe, Manager Production, and Maximilian Möllhoff, Sales Manager (all of whom oversee the Central Europe or Europe Cemex regions) has generated a more than solid order backlog. Over 60% of the products are exported to countries across the world – the construction chemicals developed in Salzkotten are in high demand internationally.

This is due to the particularly thorough knowledge and expertise that Cemex Admixtures demonstrates in concrete and cement production. This is why specialists from the individual areas are able to align the specific technical requirements with each other perfectly, to respond to changes immediately in the day-to-day business, and to deliver optimized finished products.

International network

When developing new products, Cemex Admixtures derives great benefit from the internationally networked structure of the Cemex Group. The admixtures unit develops its portfolio independently and works closely with the international product development center that Cemex Innovation Holding (CIH) operates in Biel, Switzerland.

CIH oversees the global research and development activities of Cemex. On its behalf, Cemex Admixtures employees also support the construction and commissioning of new international production sites by providing guidance and advice regarding the envisaged product ranges and plant designs.

Towards a sustainable production of construction materials

Many admixtures developed by Cemex Admixtures make it possible to optimize the concrete environmentally while also increasing energy efficiency. They thus contribute to a sustainable, resource-saving production of concrete and support construction materials companies in reducing their environmental impact.
