Bobcat, a global brand for construction equipment, innovation and solutions, has sold more than 30,000 machines in Europe equipped with its proprietary Machine IQ telematics system. Launched in 2019, the platform gives customers and dealers near real-time access to key machine data, helping to increase efficiency, improve safety and maximise machine uptime.

Direct from the factory or as a retrofit kit

Machine IQ is installed either directly from the factory or as a retrofit kit through authorised Bobcat dealers and connects supported Bobcat machines to the cloud. This gives users access to important information at any time, enabling them to respond more quickly, minimise risks and use their machines even more efficiently. Standard features include maintenance tracking and machine grouping. This basic package is free of charge for the first two years.

The optional premium package offers advanced features such as geofencing, detailed utilisation reports, an error code history and customisable notifications. It also includes the ability to remotely start or shut down certain machines, including compact and track loaders, mini excavators, compact wheel loaders and, more recently, telescopic handlers and telehandlers.

Whether locating and recovering machines or setting up geofences and time-based alerts for unexpected movements, operators and fleet managers use Machine IQ specifically to increase safety and implement their projects on schedule. In addition, continuous monitoring of fuel consumption and machine performance enables data-driven decision-making that helps increase productivity and reduce downtime. Thanks to near real-time error codes, dealers can intervene early to fix minor issues before they lead to major repairs – a crucial advantage, especially in demanding operating conditions.

Tomas Plechaty, Senior Digital Programme Manager, Doosan Bobcat EMEA, emphasises: "The fact that we have exceeded the milestone of 30,000 machines connected to Machine IQ not only demonstrates our strong commitment to innovative and practical solutions, but also the real added value that our technology offers in everyday work. Thanks to the available

real-time data available, Bobcat customers across Europe are using Machine IQ to improve safety, increase productivity and make informed decisions."

New feature: Remote engine start and stop – now also available for telescopic handlers

Bobcat has added a new feature to its Machine IQ telematics platform: Remote engine start and stop is now also available for telescopic handlers.

Users can now conveniently start or shut down their machine's engine remotely via the Owner Portal or the Machine IQ mobile app.

This feature not only offers additional convenience, but also increases security: with just a few clicks, the machine can be shut down if necessary – for example, to prevent theft or to speed up recovery in an emergency.

Customer-oriented innovation: Machine IQ in practice

Numerous examples from the everyday work of European Bobcat customers show that Machine IQ is not only well thought-out, but also practical: when the E27z from HA Terrassement, including its trailer, was stolen directly from the company's driveway, the Belgian Bobcat dealer used the platform to determine the machine's last GPS location. Hans Vervloet, Aftermarket Manager at Vangaever NV, was then able to provide the customer with the exact coordinates – and the high-value equipment, worth tens of thousands of euros, was quickly returned undamaged.

Sandy Gray, Director of Grays Machinery Ltd in the UK, also relies on Machine IQ: a Bobcat S450, which is regularly parked outside the company premises, is protected there by the geofencing function and live fault codes. This not only ensures safety, but also allows the company to actively plan maintenance – an advantage for machines that are used in harsh conditions. The result: less unplanned downtime and a longer machine life.

According to Kristina Bozhilova, Sales and Service Administration at Megatron EAD, Rashev & Co in Bulgaria also benefits from the transparency and proactive support provided by Machine IQ. The ability to monitor error codes, maintenance schedules and fuel consumption in near real time, identify problems and proactively arrange services supports faster, data-driven decisions and ensures that the fleet remains operational.

Strategy focused on innovation

Bobcat is consistently pursuing its goal of further expanding its digital portfolio, with Machine IQ at its core. Additional features, deeper integrations and intelligent diagnostic solutions are planned, offering fleet managers and end users even more comprehensive insights and control over their machines. The ongoing commitment to digital innovation will also strengthen the Bobcat dealer network in Europe, with even better opportunities for machine management, preventive maintenance and increased productivity for customers.

Tomas Plechaty explains: ‘We are very excited about this significant milestone – but this is only the beginning. Machine IQ is a central component of our innovation approach. We will continue to invest specifically in connected technologies, integrations and dealer support so that our customers can achieve even more.’
