In the current ranking of Germany's most crisis-proof companies in 2025, Berding Beton GmbH from Steinfeld takes second place. The ranking is based on a comprehensive analysis by the Creditreform group of companies on behalf of the Süddeutsche Zeitung institute. Creditreform is one of the leading providers of credit checks in Germany.

Selection process and analysis

The stringent selection process for this analysis comprised several stages: micro-enterprises and companies without a balance sheet rating or with a credit rating outside the range of 100 to 499 were not included. In addition, the ten economic sectors with the highest default rates in 2025 were not taken into account. This left a total of 107,024 companies. After a further selection stage, which took into account factors such as payment behaviour, employee development, return on equity and equity ratio, liquidity and return on investment for the 2022 and 2023 financial years, the number was reduced to 536 companies. The ranking of the remaining companies was then based primarily on the credit rating index, with the probability of default based on the balance sheet rating being decisive in the case of identical indices.

The result of the ‘Most Crisis-Proof Company 2025’ analysis reflects the high structural resilience of the companies: their ability to react quickly to change and, thanks to their flexible adaptability, to survive crises and unpredictable economic losses or uncertainties.

Significance for Berding Beton

This makes Berding Beton's ranking all the more remarkable, as it attests to the company's high crisis resilience, strong ability to identify risks at an early stage and great stability. For over 60 years, the Berding Beton Group has been manufacturing concrete building materials at around 60 locations in Germany and the Netherlands.

The product range of the medium-sized family business based in Steinfeld comprises more than 16,000 items in the fields of gardening and landscaping, road and sewer construction, and rainwater management. Berding Beton is delighted with its excellent performance in the company ranking, which documents its recognition as a crisis-proof company.

‘Every employee has contributed to this and can be very proud of this ranking,’ summarises company owner Georg Berding. ‘It confirms that we are well positioned with the triad of diversification, innovation and the solid financial structure of a family business.’ He is also optimistic about the future: ‘The major challenges ahead in housing construction, the necessary renewal of our infrastructure and the adaptation of our cities and communities to the consequences of global warming require appropriate building materials and will secure long-term sales for construction companies and the building materials industry. Good housing and a functioning infrastructure are basic human needs – this is sometimes overlooked.’
