Second BetonTag Nord symposium in Hanover:
BBQ & Co. – from concept to concrete action

The newly adopted DIN 1045 generation of standards introduced cross-interface communication between all project stakeholders as a key element to ensure quality in concrete construction. Communication processes commence as early as at the design stage and continue right through to the construction phase. Part 1000 of DIN 1045 is the framework standard that describes the system of quality classes of concrete construction (Betonbauqualitätsklassen; BBQ). Following its publication in August 2023, questions have arisen regarding the specifics of applying and implementing the theoretical concept in practice. The second edition of the BetonTag (Concrete Day) Nord symposium to be held on September 25, 2025, at the Royal Stables convention center of Leibniz University Hanover will address this topic determining the future of concrete construction.

The BBQ concept in practice

The Concrete Day will provide an overview of the challenges involved in applying the BBQ concept in practice. Various perspectives will be considered – experts in design, concrete technology, and construction will share insights into the using.

New concretes and certification systems

Concrete construction and concrete technology are undergoing tremendous change and have faced numerous challenges in this process, particularly in the recent past. These changes affect conventional concrete development owing to a shift in the raw material base resulting, for instance, from more demanding sustainability requirements. Another important aspect is the shift from a descriptive design approach based on long-term experience, which has been applied almost exclusively to date, to a performance-based approach. The BetonTag Nord symposium will demonstrate how concrete can be designed beyond current normative rules while outlining the regulatory requirements to be adhered to. In addition, the discussion will cover sustainability aspects and certification systems in concrete construction.
