Sustainability Award for online presence

For the German online presence on the subject of biodiversity and sustainability, HeidelbergCement received the special prize in “public relations” as part of the Sustainability Award 2015/2016 presented by Bundesverband Mineralische Rohstoffe e.V. (MIRO - German Federal Association of Mineral Resources).

“HeidelbergCement makes use of digital and the main information media of today, in order to draw attention to the aspect of biodiversity on mining sites difficult to access. In my opinion, a public relations to such an extent, according to the principle of ‚Do good things and talk about it! increases the acceptance of surface mining considerably,” stated Prof. Dr. Ulrich Sinsch, member of the jury. Gabriela Schulz, spokeswoman of MIRO and also jury member, added: “However, we were particularly impressed by the cross-media concept, starting from postcards to books through to the homepage and up-to-date media as Facebook and YouTube. It is a scheme with lots of thoughts behind it.”

19 projects submitted

Birgit Michel, responsible for the division of cement and aggregates at HeidelbergCement AG, thanked the jury for the award, emphasizing that HeidelbergCement is engaged in such broad public relations even representative for the entire sector.

Apart from the project “online presence”, Heidelberg Sand & Kies GmbH, a subsidiary company of HeidelbergCement AG, had submitted the project “bank swallows”, which received an honorable mention.
