Fire behavior of precast prestressed concrete floor slabs

Precast prestressed concrete floor slabs (prestressed concrete hollow core floors) are primarily used in industrial and commercial construction, in residential construction, for garages and schools. Annually about 20 to 25 million m² of precast prestressed concrete floor slabs are used up in building throughout Europe, and about 2 million m² in Germany. The advantages of this construction method are above all attributed to the high degree of prefabrication, the low dead weight and the comparatively large spans.
