VDI Updates Guidelines on Load Securing for Reinforcing Steel

The Association of German Engineers (Verein Deutscher Ingenieure) has updated several guidelines in the VDI 2700 series on load securing for road vehicles. For the concrete and precast industry, VDI 2700 Part 11 on load securing for reinforcing steel is particularly relevant.
VDI 2700 Part 11, published in June 2026, applies to vehicles used to transport reinforcing steel and wire rod. These include, for example, semi-trailer trucks as well as trucks with and without trailers.
Calculation of Securing Forces
VDI 2700 Part 16 was also published in June 2026. The guideline contains instructions and recommendations on suitable procedures and methods for securing loads in box trucks, on open-bed transporters, and on towed trailers with a maximum gross vehicle weight of up to 7.5 metric tons.
VDI 2700 Part 2.1 was published in May 2026 and addresses special cases in the calculation of securing forces. It describes the fundamentals and procedures for calculating the securing forces required for loads on road vehicles while in motion under normal traffic conditions. The guideline focuses on the calculation of stable, rigid loads.
The guidelines in the VDI 2700 series are intended for shippers, loaders, drivers, vehicle owners, and others responsible for load securing and safe transport. The guidelines can be obtained from DIN Media.
