Packaging materials in the concrete block industry

Against the backdrop of the sustainability objective of “resource conservation”, the first workshop concerning “packaging of concrete goods” took place in January 2019 as an evaluation of the situation and determination of solutions for the reduction of the packaging waste occurring in the sector. As a result of the two workshops that followed in April and June 2019, the 1st edition of the internal information paper “Packaging in the concrete block industry” was passed, one the one hand, describing the status quo and, on the other hand, containing medium- and long-term industry targets regarding the reduction of packaging expenditure. In two additional topic-related workshops held in September 2021 and October 2022, different approaches for achieving these targets were presented in several motivational speeches respectively and within the subsequent exchange of experiences any intermediate changes, innovations and approaches for further development in the field of industry-relevant packaging were discussed with regard to the self-defined targets of the industry. The results of the same and the results of a survey conducted in 2023 about the quantitative development of packaging waste within the association members provided the technical basis for the revision of the above-mentioned SLG information paper. The 2nd edition of the information paper “Packaging in the concrete block industry” (Verpackungen in der Betonsteinindustrie) published in June 2024 describes the achievements made in the meantime for reaching the self-defined targets of the industry in an especially dedicated chapter.
