(57) A grade-supported composite floor or slab includes structural wood layers that form a worker-safe, low cost, environmentally-friendly alternative to standard concrete slab for grade-supported floor construction. The composite wood floor slab includes a first layer of wood boards with a second layer of wood boards at 90 degrees to the first layer boards. A third layer of wood boards may be installed on the second layer. Spaces or gaps may be included between the boards to further reduce cost and/or to allow for formation of a lattice that can be filled with a flowable, high-density fill material. Tubing can be laid through the lattice and engulfed by the flowable fill to provide for radiant heating. In this way, a less expensive and less energy intensive floor slab is provided that may be used for various structures, including residential and commercial construction as a viable alternative to concrete slabs.
