The first version of the so-called “Concrete Shelter” in modular design served as emergency refugee shelter for people displaced from regions of war and crisis in the Middle East and Africa (see BFT International 11/2015, p. 4). Upon request of German local authorities, Betonwerk Heinrich Hachmeister based in the city of Andernach in Rhineland-Palatinate/Germany brings an improved version of the “concrete shelter” on the market.

Improvements were made in terms of sustainability. This means that the new version is intended for long-term use, in the sector of social housing, for instance....
