Black architectural concrete

Unwanted interactions between black iron-oxide pigment and PCE-based superplasticizers –

PCE-based superplasticizers are commonly used as concrete additives to manufacture precast elements and ready-mixed concrete. They are mainly used for the production of self-compacting or easily compactible concretes. To produce black architectural concrete, black iron-oxide pigments such as Bayferrox 360 should preferably be applied to achieve a long-lasting black color. Yet it is precisely the combination of PCE-containing plasticizers and black iron-oxide pigments that sometimes leads to unwanted results.
