Groundbreakers and Solid Unit Baden-Württemberg, the network for sustainable innovative solid construction, are entering into a partnership.
“With Solid Unit BW and Groundbreakers, two successful innovation networks founded in Baden-Württemberg are joining forces to form an even stronger innovation alliance for construction,” emphasize Professor Patrick Planing, head of Groundbreakers, and Wiebke Zuschlag, managing director of Solid Unit Baden-Württemberg.
Groundbreakers was launched in 2023 by the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences (HFT Stuttgart), the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), and Fraunhofer IAO. The initiative aims to bring together start-ups from the construction and real estate industry with established companies, universities, and research institutions.
Solid Unit also connects representatives of the construction value chain to drive innovation in research and development and increase its use on construction sites. At the heart of the network are so-called network teams that collaborate on specific topics such as climate resilience, CO2 reduction, and sustainable resource management. The network celebrated its fifth anniversary in 2025 and has also been active at the federal level for three years.
In the future, startups from both networks will have the opportunity to network directly with industry partners at joint and already established events. This will create additional space for exchange, pilot projects, and cooperation, further accelerating innovation processes in the construction and real estate industry.
