IAB-Tage “BETON” 2025: Focus on topics driving the future of the construction industry
Under the heading “Building the Future Together”, the 31st edition of the IAB Tage “BETON” (IAB Concrete Days) will take place on November 12 and 13, 2025, in Weimar. This renowned industry event hosted by the Institute of Applied Construction Research (IAB) has evolved over many years to become a major venue for the building materials, construction equipment, and concrete construction industries. It provides a practice-driven platform for identifying trends, showcasing new developments, and facilitating professional exchange. More than 250 participants are expected to attend the conference to take place at Leonardo Hotel in Weimar. They can look forward to 20 specialist presentations on innovative products, groundbreaking developments, and forward-looking solutions.
An industry exhibition running alongside the conference will provide additional opportunities for networking, establishing direct business contacts, and engaging in in-depth discussions with industry experts. Thuringia’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Colette Boos-John, and Bauhaus University Weimar’s President, Peter Benz, will deliver the welcoming speeches and underscore the event’s significance for the construction industry.
Overcoming challenges in the construction industry
“The construction industry is facing profound changes. Our conference aims to provide a venue where researchers, industry professionals, and practitioners can share their expertise and develop novel approaches to sustainable, efficient, and innovative construction,” says IAB Institute Director, Robert Fetter. “This is why the 2025 IAB Tage ‘BETON’ edition is the perfect opportunity to foster knowledge transfer between industry and academia, utilize synergies, and shape the future of construction together.”
Concrete technology, serial construction, automation and AI
This year, the varied, practice-driven lecture program of IAB Tage “BETON” focuses on innovations in concrete technology, including new material developments, improved mixing and manufacturing processes, and more efficient concrete mix designs. Such innovations provide new options for design and construction. In addition, serial and modular construction is becoming increasingly important. Efficient construction processes and flexible, modular systems are considered to be crucial for greater cost effectiveness and faster project execution.
Another focus is on sustainability and recycling. Strategies for conserving resources and reducing carbon emissions, as well as using recycled concrete, inform current research projects and industry activities. The lecture program also includes panels on automation and AI, presenting exciting perspectives: Robotics, machine learning, and automated manufacturing processes are expected to result in higher quality, lower costs, and a significant workload reduction – both on the construction site and on the factory floor. Digital design processes create transparency, improve coordination, and enable efficient management of complex construction projects.
Exhibition and get-together allow for networking and exchange
As usual, the event will also feature an industry exhibition running alongside the conference. Many businesses from the building materials, construction equipment, and concrete construction industries will showcase their products and services at the exhibition. Likewise, BFT International will have its own exhibition stand this year again. The event will be rounded off by a social program featuring an evening get-together at the IAB premises.
