All important aspects regarding the topic of „storing and dosing of concrete and mortar admixtures“ are included in the new code of practice published by the Technical Committee 2 „Concrete Technology“ of Deutsche Bauchemie in a revised and extended version.
In comparison to the previous edition of 2012, the code of practice has been extended by four to twelve pages now and brings the expert community and users of concrete and mortar admixtures up to date. The first section describes how to express and control orders of concrete admixtures precisely in order to avoid confusions and unnecessary surplus deliveries. Section 2 „storing of admixtures“ has been extended significantly by additional information regarding the requirements to be met in respect of the storing of concrete admixtures and has been updated, incorporating the valid regulations in compliance with the German national ordinance on facilities for handling of substances that are hazardous to water (Verordnung über Anlagen zum Umgang mit wassergefährdenden Stoffen - AwSV) which entered into force in 2017. This information is given in a summary table covering two pages presenting the criteria and the respective regulations for facilities of hazardous levels A and B. Section 3 gives an explanation on professional maintenance and cleaning of the storage tanks likewise provided in tabular form giving examples of the respective purpose (e.g., major inspection), the right time, and the corresponding detailed measures. Recommendations and information on dosing of admixtures follow in section 4. The code of practice is complemented by advice on the disposal of residual quantities of admixtures and rinsing water used given in section 5, literature tips and supplier sources of relevant manufacturers and suppliers of storage tanks, collecting tanks as well as plasticizer-resistant hoses and tubes.
The new code of practice „Lagerung und Dosierung von Beton- und Mörtelzusatzmitteln“ is available on the Internet at www.deutsche-bauchemie.de/Publikationen for free download as PDF file or can be ordered at Deutsche Bauchemie‘s online shop as a print version (at a nominal fee of 1,00 Euro plus postage).
