New master craftsman’s course and continuing training

At the annual event held on 23 October 2017 in Regenstauf near Regensburg, Germany, the Berufsförderungswerk für die Beton- und Fertigteilhersteller e. V. (BBF; Association for the Advancement of Vocational Training for Concrete and Precast Producers) informed its members of latest success stories in the advancement of vocational training in the industry. BBF Managing Director Gramatiki Satslidis again pointed attendees to the online guidance for implementation published by the Bundesinstitut für Berufsbildung (BIBB; Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training) for the “Betonfertigteilbauer/in” (precast element worker) and “Werksteinhersteller/in” (engineered stone technologist) training curricula. This guidance was prepared on the basis of the revised list of job specifications; it contains information on how to implement related training programs in a shop-floor environment. The online guidance is available free of charge. It can be downloaded from the BIBB website (https://www.bibb.de) by entering the keywords “Ausbildung gestalten Betonfertigteilbauer” in the search window.

Master craftsman’s course

Satslidis then reported on the current status regarding the design of the new master craftsman’s course entitled “Industriemeister Aufbereitungs- und Verfahrenstechnik” (industrial master [craftsman] for processing technology and process engineering). The Regensburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce has adopted the regulation governing related examinations. Current BBF efforts include the coordination of training contents in the “equipment/engineering” field and the search for instructors in concert with the Federal Ready-Mixed Concrete Association and the Federal Industrial Minerals Association.

The “BetonQuali” program was once again presented to BBF members. This part-time continuing training program is designed for unskilled workers in the concrete industry to obtain qualification as a process technician in the minerals industry. The major part of the curriculum will be managed through a dedicated online learning platform. As at the press date of this BFT International issue, the trial phase was to commence in January 2018, followed by a fee-based model from autumn 2019.

Study visit to Poland

Participants in the next study visit to be organized jointly by the BBF and the Verein Ehemaliger Ulmer Meisterschüler (VUM) will travel to Poland from 6 to 10 May this year. As in previous years, the agenda will also include visits to precast plants.

The next general assembly of members has been scheduled for 25 and 26 October 2018 in Rottweil.
