Low embodied energy cements based on sulfoaluminates

This article presents the results of a comprehensive study with the aim to replace ordinary Portland cement. The laboratory tests showed that both tested formulations of calcium sulfoaluminate cement are characterized by a more rapid strength development.

The cement and concrete production sector is going through a process of technological innovation aiming to improve product performance whilst addressing the issues related to rising energy costs, and the assessment of the environmental impact associated with the production process. The boost for innovation appears to be an important driver for the research and development of new building materials.
