A purposefully applied supplementary reinforcement can considerably increase the load-bearing capacity of fastenings embedded in concrete under tension load (mode of failure: concrete cone failure) and under shear load (mode of failure: concrete edge failure).

The design approaches for these applications are defined in EN 1992-4 [1].
