375 visitors from 41 countries at the 6th ICAAC

The 6th International Conference on Autoclaved Aerated Concrete, held from September 4 to 6, 2018 in Germany at the University Potsdam for the first time, set new standards for the following conferences. “The worldwide interest in all matters related to the construction with autoclaved aerated concrete is enormous, and opportunities for an international exchange between research and companies should take place much more frequently in the future,” were two of the main conclusions. At present, autoclaved aerated concrete is used for the construction of residential, commercial and industrial buildings.

With experts from science, research, industry and associations as well as students, the composition of the conference participants was as diverse as the program. The organizers talk about an event of superlatives. The figures make it clear: 375 visitors from 41 countries came to Potsdam; the top seven of participating countries were Germany, Poland, China, the Netherlands, Turkey, and Russia. 23 countries were represented for the first time, including Argentina, India, Israel, South Africa, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Malaysia.

87 expert contributions on 12 subject areas

Representatives from science and research focused on the topic areas of “structural engineering”, “earthquake-resistant construction with autoclaved aerated concrete”, “digitalization”, “circular economy recycling management”, “CSH chemistry”, “building physics”, “process technology”, and “global challenges for the construction with autoclaved aerated concrete.”

Speakers from 19 countries provided a total of 87 expert contributions on 12 subject areas in three lecture halls over three days.

Accompanying trade exhibition and technical visit

The number of more than 3,000 users of the Website and App respectively is remarkable too; the pages were called up 45,565 times in 91 countries and nearly 1,000 visitors accessed the sites of sponsors. A total of 15 sponsors were represented at the accompanying exhibition for three days, including Xella and Solbet as platinum sponsors.

The 6th ICAAC 2018 was hosted by the two German member associations of EAACA (European Autoclaved Aerated Concrete Association), the Association for Building in White (VBiW - Verband Bauen in Weiß e.V.) and Federal Association of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (BVP - Bundesverband Porenbetonindustrie e.V.).

The social program included a Get-together on the eve of the conference, a conference dinner as well as a technical visit at the location of Xella in the municipality of Kloster Lehnin on the final day.
