Austrian company Mischek Systembau invests in the
future of precast concrete production

Efficiency, digitalization, and sustainability are the defining attributes of our time, which is why continuously investing in the modernization of production processes is becoming increasingly important from a strategic perspective. Mischek Systembau GmbH has been operating successfully in industrial prefabrication for over 50 years and is considered a pioneer in this field in Austria, more specifically as a leading supplier of precast elements with integrated system components. Mischek has been a member of Strabag Group since 2004 and thus benefits from a Europe-wide network of construction industry expertise.

Tradition and experience

Mischek Systembau has over five decades of experience in the production of precast elements. Since its takeover by Strabag Group in 2004, the company has gained access to technology resources and an expanded market. Mischek currently operates its production facility in three shifts and manufactures a wide range of precast concrete elements, including slab-shaped solid and semi-precast elements, but also special precast elements with complex geometries. These specially designed precast components feature a high degree of prefabrication. Managing Director Mathias Tabor explains: “One of our highlights is certainly the ‘intelligence’ of our precast elements. Our serial residential product Tetriqx, for instance, consists of standardized components that form part of the Mischek system construction method and are pre-installed at the factory.”

Top-class technical performance

In recent years, Mischek Systembau has continuously invested in equipment and machinery to drive automation and digitalization. To increase productivity and add value, the company continues to rely on its partnership with Progress Group. Most recent investments include a Wire Center for automated reinforcing steel processing at the plant. This is where several reinforcement processing machines are fully integrated into the production process, including a Versa lattice girder welding machine, an MSR straightening and cutting machine, and gripper systems for transporting the bars and lattice girders. The distinctive feature of the lattice girder system is that the top wire is pre-cut on a separate single straightening machine, while the bottom wire is changed automatically. This method results in specially designed lattice girders with different wire diameters for the top and bottom wires. “The main reasons why we are constantly investing in automation are to add value and to become less dependent on purchasing embedded parts. This also eliminates the need for storage space and manipulation work steps,” Tabor adds. Thanks to the high precision, reliability, and flexible integration into the existing production line, the company can continuously increase its degree of automation while manufacturing complex components efficiently and driving down material costs.

Many years of collaboration

As early as 2008, Mischek invested in machines from Ebawe Anlagentechnik, the specialist for circulation plants in the Progress Group. In addition to producing double walls and precast slabs, solid prefabricated components are also manufactured on a second carousel system. Another pioneering investment was the installation of a Tube Master pipe-laying robot in 2019. This machine automatically inserts cooling and heating pipes in precast elements. This automated workflow speeds up processes and reduces labor costs. Yet the modernization effort did not stop with the rebar processing units as some machines in the carousel plant were also replaced. The modern Econ Drive concrete spreader and machines for cleaning pallets and formwork were also commissioned in 2025. These machines incorporated into the carousel plant reduce the amount of manual work, limit waste, and free up storage space.

Focus on digitalization

Besides physical machinery, digital production control plays a crucial role. The Ebos software solution from Progress Group enables data-driven decisions to be made through real-time visualization of production. It is easy to use and optimizes production planning while ensuring a smooth workflow. Tabor explains: “This software plays a crucial role for us because it supplies large amounts of data and we base our data-driven decisions on the corresponding analytics.” Flexible pallet allocation maximizes productivity. Mischek also uses the Vision.Image quality control system, which automatically captures and documents images of the pallet prior to casting for better quality control and traceability of embedded parts. Tabor also emphasizes: “As a technology group for construction services, Strabag focuses on automation and increasing the level of digitalization, which is of major importance to us as an industrial manufacturing business within Strabag Group.”

Envisioning the future

Mischek Systembau uses the Tetriqx serial residential construction system to build multi-story residential units featuring a high degree of standardization and repeatability. This effort is geared towards reducing costs, shortening construction times, and ensuring sustainability and flexibility in residential construction. This is how Mischek strengthens its focus on prefabrication and vertical integration. “We are envisioning ongoing developments in the coming years, particularly with regard to the degree of automation and the expansion of our product range for many Tetriqx residential buildings across Austria,” Tabor comments.

Strong partnership

The collaboration with Progress Group is a key success driver for Mischek, enabling the business to combine state-of-the-art production processes, a high degree of automation, and consistently high efficiency. “Our collaboration always takes place transparently and on equal terms. This expert exchange enables us to enhance productivity and increase the degree of digitalization. Combining technology expertise, customized systems, and digital solutions makes this collaboration a key success driver going forward.”

Investing in machines and software from Progress Group enables the company to implement serial, sustainable construction in Austria in an efficient manner and to retain its market leadership in industrial prefabrication.
