Based on the experience of the construction of Line 1 of the Panama City Metro, the national government has opted for an expansion of the Metro as an option to improve mass transportation in the city. This is the reason why the project was approved for the construction of Line 2 with self-compacting concrete (SCC).

According to studies carried out by Metro de Panamá S.A., by the year 2035 the population that utilizes this sector will exceed 750,000 inhabitants, with a daily generation of 400,000 displacements via public transport between the periphery and the town center, which would be realized under less than satisfactory conditions.
