CCL invests in Leeds to integrate Spiroll under one roof

CCL has made a substantial investment in relocating the manufacturing operations of its precast production plant provider, Spiroll, to the company’s UK headquarters in Leeds as part of a planned expansion programme. A specialist in engineered solutions for structures, CCL completed the acquisition of Spiroll in July 2016 and will continue to operate the company’s commercial and technical functions in Derby following a move to new offices, while transferring manufacturing to CCL’s ISO 9001-accredited, quality assured site in Leeds.

Spiroll provides bespoke, optimized solutions for both established precasters and companies new to the market, including comprehensive precast factories and temporary on site plants designed to support specific construction projects. The company serves a global customer base, offering a turnkey service from consultancy and design through to commissioning, training and support. The move to CCL’s production facility in Leeds is designed to provide an advanced manufacturing environment with capacity for growth and drive efficiency through lean management.

Programme of systems integration completed

As part of the phased move, which took place over a period of three months, CCL has revised the layout of its production facility to create a dedicated manufacturing space for Spiroll and will be installing a new overhead crane to address the specific requirements of the precast solutions specialist.

The relocation also completes a programme of systems integration that has seen CCL invest significantly in aligning Spiroll’s processes with CCL’s business across a wide range of commercial and operational areas, including manufacturing, procurement, stock control and order processing. As a result of this preparation across both companies, Spiroll has been able to drive enhanced efficiency and high standards of customer service from day one of its new operation in Leeds.

Status as an advanced engineering business

Explains Paul Tate, general manager of Spiroll: „The move takes us to a state-of-the-art factory which has been fitted out to meet the needs of a growing, dynamic and internationally-focused business. Our new office location in Derby will retain some workshop facilities to enable equipment servicing and repairs but our main production facility at CCL’s HQ in Leeds will be more in keeping with our status as an advanced engineering business and offers us excellent transport links. The move also enables greater integration between Spiroll and CCL, completing a process that has been ongoing for the past two years. Not only will it benefit our customers in terms of the facilities and scope for expansion we can offer, but it will also enable closer collaboration with CCL. This will allow us to draw on our parent company’s resources as we continue to facilitate more efficient precast concrete production for our customers worldwide, and support our international growth strategy in developing markets around the world.”
